Any respectable competition should have a trophy.

I've been to many children's robotics competitions as coaches in the past few years. I've seen the excitement, the work, the last-minute strategy changes, robots that went perfectly in training and then decided to do something completely different in the competition, kids who learned to lose, kids who learned to win, and teams that grew enormously in a single day.

But one thing has often surprised us: how few competitions, even international ones, have their own trophy.
Most of the time, children go home with a participation certificate and, at most, a medal.

It's nice, of course, any recognition counts. But for a child, a trophy has a different weight.

It's the object you put on your desk, on a shelf in the library or in your room. And if the trophy stays at the club or at school, it's the object you take a photo with that will remind you for the rest of your life that you were there, that you competed, that you were part of a team and that your work mattered.

From our point of view, a trophy doesn't just mark a place in the rankings, but sometimes the beginning of a story that can change your life.
